Otome gamers, Utsusemi no Meguri is now up for grabs on the Japanese Nintendo eShop! The game is available for download only.
This supposedly “news” post ended up being a mini-spotlight post because I wasn’t familiar at all with this game (and down the rabbit hole I went) 😂 anyway, I’ve put together very brief information about the characters and the game system, taken from vndb and their official website. Read on if you’re interested!

Developed by Matatabi, a Japanese company known for otome visual novels and drama CDs, Utsusemi no Meguri initially made its debut on the PS Vita in 2017.

✤ SYNOPSIS
On a remote island far from the mainland that’s shrouded in darkness, there are two gates that connect to the Realm of the Dead. One of the gates, Higammon, is guarded by humans. The other gate, Kogammon, is watched over by demons. Although each gate is safeguarded, an ancient tragedy has led to a deep rift between the humans and demons. However, after an usual event suddenly occurs at the two gates, the protagonist must go and face the demons.
Under influence by the demons, their fate and the island’s mystery begins to unravel. And, two hearts will connect and become bound to one another. Thus, a tale colored by fate and the forbidden shall be told.

Heroine. The human who was sent to the demon clan. A hard working person who is always thinking of others happiness more than her own.

Smart and a genius warrior, he’s been fighting monsters since he was a child. He doesn’t talk much and tends to stay away from others.
✤ HAYATE

The oni chief, he harbors a deep hatred for humans.

”…Hey, is it really ok to trust me so easily?”
He often teases people and plays around, but he doesn’t seem to have a deep connection with anyone.

The protagonist’s servant, he takes his duty to keep her safe seriously. He has a soft and calm personality and rarely shows strong emotions.
✤ HIIRAGI TOMOKAGE
CV: Tachibana Shinnosuke
He has a my-pace personality, but he’s still the big brotherly type that is good at looking after people. But often it’s hard to see what he’s thinking.
Game system
✤ ENDING TYPES
After entering individual routes for each character, affection further branches into two routes and four endings.
In the ‘Yang Route,’ solve problems together and build a connection, or in the ‘Yin Route,’ get entangled in his inner darkness and fall.
Within the Yang Route, there’s the ‘Happy Ending,’ blessed by all, and the ‘Forbidden Ending,’ an illicit love without forgiveness.
On the other hand, in the Yin Route, witness the ‘Madness Ending’ with his twisted love and the ‘Tragic Love Ending,’ depicting the cruel fate tearing apart the loving couple.
✤ MINI GAME
Mini-games are interspersed during the adventure parts. The mini-game involves the protagonist playing the flute to empower oni (demons) and defeat yōkai (monsters).
If you fill the miko gauge completely before the time gauge runs out, the mini-game is successful, and the affection level increases.
Failing to fill the miko gauge within the time results in failure. Although it won’t lead to a game over, the affection level won’t increase either.
Other game features are fairly standard visual novel mechanics, including quick save, quick load, history check and rewind, skip read/unread, auto play, skip jump, and voice acting (if name’s left on default), and choices which alter affection levels.
