Everyone wants answers.

Who is at fault, what is a mistake?

And what deserves to be punished?

To preserve the shape of this world, things are split into black and white.

Those who sees between black and white will only continue to suffer.

Everyone should know this in their hearts.

That things are one of two.

Black and white. Heads and tails. Light and shadow.

Good news and bad news.

And to change, or to end.

“Pizza time”

“The fixers”

“Play” movie

Cinematic adventure game

BUSTAFELLOWS, released in December 2019, and its sequel, Season 2, continues the story of the previous game. The protagonist, Teuta and the five characters, Limbo, Shu, Helvetica, Shu, and Scarecrow, are presented as “5 Playing Movies”. The common theme of the five stories is “Change or End”. Please enjoy their growth and changing relationships, as well as the new characters.

Vira’s note #2:

I just want to elaborate on Season 2’s theme,「変わるか、終わるか 」ー 変わる (kawaru) means to change or “transform”, which is straightforward enough, while 終わる (owaru) means to [come to an] end, but the kanji  can also mean death or end of life.

“To change, or to end.”

NEW SIEG

New Sieg, a metropolis located on the east coast of the United States, is a unique city that has developed from the meshing of various races and nationalities. Many people from all over the US and abroad come to New Sieg make a new start, but the problem is that many are illegal immigrants. At night, the city shines with glittering neon lights – particularly “Belle Star” along the coast is said to “awaken at night.” Thanks to the efforts of Campbell State Attorney, problems such as illegal immigration and human trafficking are being strictly controlled, but there are problems which remain, including the change in power structure of the 5 major gangs in New Sieg.

Vira’s note #3:

I had to refresh my memory because it’s been a while since I played the first game, but Belle Star is New Sieg’s downtown. It’s also where Helvetica’s clinic and Paraiso Garage (Carmen’s club) is located.

FELLOWS

“Living together”

The six members, Teuta, Limbo, Shu, Helvetica, Mozu, and a cat, share a house with Scarecrow, who owns a mansion in a prestigious residential area in Butterfield. Each of them has a separate home, a familiar motel, and a collapsed house that is now unlivable, but they continue to live together. Those who are good at doing chores such as cleaning and cooking are put in charge to do so, and everyone pays for their own living expenses. If they badmouth the landlord, they have to pay a fine.

Vira’s note #4:

This one is more of a comment. Maybe I have the memory of a goldfish, but I don’t remember much details about their living arrangements – like having to pay Scarecrow a fine if they badmouth him, LOL. How cute!

The new characters

These are the three new characters which eXtend have been heavily promoting.

Juno Iacocca

Juno Bustafellows

The happy-go-lucky influencer.

 Voice actor: Chiba Shouya

Height: 174 cm

Age / DOB: 25 / June 1st

A popular SNS influencer who enjoys makeup and fashion.

Juno has a soft, gender-neutral atmosphere, but does physical action stunts for a living.

Popular for his relaxed style, my-pace and non-pretentious attitude.

I know you and I are completely different type……so I’m looking forward to talking with you about all kinds of things.”

Guero Neruda

The angry gangster.

 Voice actor: Asanuma Shintarou

Height: 182 cm

Age / DOB: 38 / November 2nd

The boss of Neruda family, one of the five largest gangs in New Sieg.

He lived in Mexico for a long time as he was on bad terms with his father, but after his father’s death, he returned to New Sieg to take over as the family’s boss.

He has a deep love for his family and the people of his town, but is ruthless towards his enemies and traitors.

He is also known as the “Goodman” for his courteous manners.

“To protect the people you care about, or to protect justice. If you don’t choose one or the other, things will end badly.”

Watcher

Watcher Bustafellows

A skilled and observant informant.

 Voice actor: Fukumachi Toshinari

Height: 189 cm

Age / DOB: 25 / January 1st

As the go-to informant for New Sieg’s famous newspaper, the New Sieg Herald, he is well known among journalists by the name of “The Watcher”.

With his thorough research and his name behind all the top news stories, from politics to events to entertainment scandals, Teuta secretly becomes interested in him.

He sometimes works part-time at “Harry & Keith” cafe.

“Having a strange power is pretty tough, isn’t it? I know how you feel……because I’m the same way.”

“I thought the column was very gracefully written, so I’m happy to meet you in person.”

“Isn’t it ironic, Dad. You hated God so much, yet when you die, you go to His kingdom?”

“If we get along better, will you tell me then?”

Sub-characters

Bustafellows Season 2 will also feature 8 sub-characters, some of which you may remember seeing (or hearing) in the first game. Note that these translations aren’t word for word – I have shortened them a bit.

Ally (CV. Isomura Tomomi)

“…I’m opposed to you dating that guy.”

  • Teuta’s mother, an executive at a PR firm in Los Angeles.
  • Bright and cheerful, gets along with people easily. Loves anchor motifs.

Sid (CV. Fujita Mikihiko)

“You see, I wanted to drink this with my son. The sake that I wanted to toast over with my son….”

  • Teuta’s father. A guitarist and participates in various band tours.
  • Lives in LA with Ally but away most of the time on tour.

Ricardo (CV. Omoto Yu)

“Why are you desperately trying to protect the wrongdoer? I don’t get it.”

  • Limbo’s junior in law school, assistant district attorney in New Sieg.
  • Has fought Limbo in court before, though he rarely wins. Scared of Valerie (Limbo’s sister).

Renée (CV. Kubota (?) Ai)*

“Since it’s Helvetica, it’s probably not impossible…but, I wonder if things are going to be okay?”

  • Staff at Helvetica’s cosmetic surgery clinic.
  • An excellent worker and supports Helvetica’s work, including after-hours.
*I can’t find much info about the seiyuu, let me know if I’m reading their name (窪田 愛) incorrectly.

Chika (CV. Ishikawa Kaito)

“I…I’m, a detective!”

  • Detective, highly athletic, skilled at handling firearms and fighting.
  • Has a foul mouth and quick hands, but very serious at heart. Not at all familiar with tech gadgets.

Nora (CV. Sugita Tomokazu)

“Please don’t drag me into this…I’m not a detective.”

  • Freelance reporter, has lots of connection with informants.
  • Always on the lookout for a new scoop. Loves spicy food.

Yarra (CV. Misato)

“I heard from him that she’s a wonderful girlfriend. That’s why I really want to meet her soon.”

  • Works at a shopping mall called Trader Jones.
  • A calm woman. Loves animal. Recently working as a volunteer at Blue Meadows.

Dahee (CV. Sato Rin)

“…Do you not feel anything when the bereaved family yell or curse at you? Have you ever seen a smiling face while you’re at this job?”

  • Coroner at New Sieg City’s Coroner Office, Mozu’s junior.
  • Constantly researching the latest technology, his skills are highly valued. Does not get along with Mozu.

Extra info & personal thoughts

I never thought eXtend would actually do a sequel for BUSTAFELLOWS, so I’m super hyped for Season 2! I had a blast playing through the first game – I thought the balance between serious and fun moments was spot on, and the LIs were charming (in their own unique ways!). Sumeragi-sensei’s art was clean, and I also loved the partly animated backgrounds – especially the one in Crow’s living room. There were some things that I feel didn’t get fleshed out enough in the finale, and I hope Season 2 will provide me some closure. Also, as a romance fiend, I need more juice between Teuta and the boys. 😫

Of the three new characters, I am most curious about the Watcher because like Teuta, he seems to have some kind of mysterious power as well. I’ve also seen a lot of people simping over Guero – and rightfully so, he’s daddy af. In BUSTAFELLOWS radio show, KENN (Limbo’s VA) hinted that Limbo will be defending Guero in court. How curious! About the Watcher, they said he has “white hair, white clothing and even white shoes, does that mean his heart is just as white~?”…I guess he’s kinda sus then? They didn’t mention much about Juno other than he’s stylish, haha.

Fun fact, Chika and Nora are both main characters from Side Kicks!, another otome game done by the same team (available on PS Vita). For those who have played BUSTAFELLOWS, you may remember seeing Chika in a few of the video call scenarios. This time, it looks like the Sakrada Police Department (where Chika works) will be a lot more involved with New Sieg’s gang drama.

I haven’t played Side Kicks!, but from what I understand it is hella similar to BUSTAFELLOWS. It too employs crime/mystery themes, and similar to Teuta, the heroine also has a special ability where she can foresee the future for a brief amount of time. Fingers crossed Side Kicks! gets a Switch port one day ‘cos I would love to try it. See the trailer below in case you’d like to watch it.

The topless rain scene is so unnecessarily sexy. 😳 Rain is heavily featured because the characters in the game are chasing after a criminal called the Rain Killer.

Thanks for reading, lovely people! Are you looking forward to playing BUSTAFELLOWS Season 2? If you play in English, would you like to see it come to the West? The only correct answer is yes, and yes. 🤣
